Starcraft
Page Last Updated: February 23rd, 2008

After enjoying the Warcraft series so many years ago, it was only nature I follow that with Starcraft. Add in unlimited online play and a great editor to make maps to my hearts content, Starcraft became one of my favorite games that I played heavily for years. Many of these maps are really old and not much effort went into them, but a couple of the "newer" ones aren't too bad. My Stargate and DarkShip maps are my best ones. The expansion Brood Wars is required for most of them. There are a few more maps that I enjoyed making and playing but I can't find them. If I do, they'll be posted.

Explosion Dodger: Download [Brood Wars, 8 Humans, Custom]
Version 1.0 by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

Move your zergling around the map from space to space and avoid the explosions that occur all over the place at random. My memory keeps telling me that there was some kind of bug with this map but I don't remember if I fixed it or not. I thought it was an interesting idea when I made it.
Total Defense: Download [Brood Wars, 6 Humans, 1 AI, Custom]
Version 1.00g by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

This is just your standard defense map where hordes of enemies rush your team that tries to defend a location. Defend the Nexus in the middle for all 20 rounds. You get to build new units or buildings as you go along to assist you. You really need all 6 players to have a decent shot at winning the later rounds.
SA Jomes Band Part I: Download [Brood Wars, 4 Humans, 3 AI, Custom]
Version 1.02 by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

I got the idea for this map while playing Goldeneye for Nintendo 64. Four secret agents are sent on missions. Which missions depends on which skill level the users choose. Players utilize a variety of tools and tactics to reach their goals. A lot of people had problems with this map because if you get shot just a couple of times you lose. There are a lot of enemies and a lot of dangerous situations that can easily get you shot. Players need to move slow and use their tools wisely. Most online players of course just want a map where they run around like rambo and blow everything up which is exactly why they don't like this map.
Island Survival: Download [4 Humans, 3 AI, Custom]
Version 1.01 by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

You and several other people are stranded and scattered across a deserted island. Find healing herbs, vines to build shelter, and battle fierce native beasts in order to survive long enough to be rescued. Your person can level up a few times in order to battle the stronger creatures that inhabit the central jungle part of the island. The coastline is where you start and is relatively safe.
Zerg Armageddon: Download [4 Humans, 4 AI, Custom]
Version 1.00 by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

Another typical defense map where you and a few others have to fight off hordes of monsters. In this one you already know where the monsters will spawn. You and your allies are given time to prepare defenses at these eight locations before monsters start piling through. You have an entire map to protect and unlimited supplies to get the job done. The monsters of course get more numerous and difficult as time passes.

Version 1.07 by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

This is one of my first Starcraft RPGs and is an old time favorite of mine. Events take you from the main kingdom to other villages that are under attack by dangerous creatures sent from an unknown source. Eventually you go on a quest to gain the power and utilities you'll need to stop the evil threat once and for all. Your characters can level up and will face a wide variety of monsters and bosses and will have to use their heads to pass the many obstacles on their way to saving the world.
Death Peak: Download [Brood Wars, 8 Humans, Custom]
Version 1.1c by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

Yet another defense map. This time six players sit in the middle and try to defend themselves against two other human players that have to try to destroy the defenders before time runs out. This is best played with 6 versus 2 or 3 versus 1.
Space Race: Download [Brood Wars, 6 Humans, 2 AI, Custom]
Version 1.0b by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

This is a map where the 6 players try to be the first one to bring a ground unit to one of two locations in the middle of the map. There are also two computer players which get in the way as well. Kill the comps, stop your opponents, and be the first to get to the location with the assorted units you are given.
TP Ground RPG: Download [Brood Wars, 5 Humans, 1 AI, RPG]
Version 1.0c by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

You and your team-mates go through 13 different scenarios using 13 different Terran and Protoss ground units to defeat the Zerg and all their bosses. There isn't much of a story, but it eats up a good 40 minutes to an hour. How or why I called this an RPG is anyone's guess but since that is the title I gave it way back when, I am sticking with it!
Sniper Commander: Download [Brood Wars, 8 Humans, Custom]
Version 1.0b by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

There are 4 teams, 2 players per team. Each team has a commander they must protect and at the same time use their units to search the map and kill the enemy commanders. The more kills you have the better units you get. Fair sized map with a bunch of hiding places.
Stargate: Download [Brood Wars, 7 Humans, Custom]
Version 1.0l by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

This is one of the best maps I made and is a great map if you are a fan of Stargate-Sg1. Choose one of seven teams (Tau'ri, Tok'ra, Tollan, Asgard, Apophis, Anubis, and the replicators) and set out to conquer the galaxy or make peace with it! Each race has specific units unique to that race and each has upgrades. There are 40 planets on the map and 24 of them have stargates. To use a stargate, each has units at the bottom of the screen which allows them to input an address and sends their units that are near a gate to the gate of the location they inputted. The map may be a bit complicated at first but is easy once the players learn how to use it. Trading units and minerals between players is also an option. Players (especially the Tau'ri) get special named units as well.
Kill Ratio: Download [Brood Wars, 6 Humans, 2 AI, Custom]
Version 1.0j by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

This map is pretty simple. Pick a unit and kill a bunch of computer monsters until ten rounds and the final bonus round has gone by. The player at the end with a unit still alive and with the most kills wins the game.
Darkship: Download [Brood Wars, 4 Humans, 2 AI, RPG]
Version 1.3 by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

This is my best and favorite RPG that I made for Starcraft. The story starts off with your team investigating a transport ship that has arrived in Earth's orbit but had since stopped sending communications. Your goal is to find survivors and a special artifact that the ship was supposed to be bringing back to Earth. Once your team discovers what is actually going on it may be too late for them...

I love this map on so many levels. First off it has a story for everyone to follow along with (the text is a bit fast and unfortunately online people prefer to kill things rather than actually read). The monsters are not just random spawns but deliberate attacks set forth by an unknown enemy. There are boss fights that feature some nice scenes. The story starts out slow and mysterious and really picks up by the time you reach the end. The NPCs actually follow you around and help fight. You can actually use computer slots to fill in for human players and the AI will follow you around as well and help heal and fight with you! All in all I am very pleased with how this RPG turned out. I had to tweak the ending several times because it was so insanely impossible that nobody (not even me) was ever able to beat it. Even when made easier, nobody was able to beat it for months (maybe years, I forget now). Then one day on January 8th, 2004 I decided to play a game of Starcraft after having not played for awhile. I hosted the map for the heck of it, grabbed three random online people to play with me, and went from there. The result, we actually played very well and used all the right tactics to not only get past the "impossible" part but also defeat the end boss (which I had never even been able to get to before!) and FINALLY beat this map. I had a blast.
Villains And Heroes: Download [Brood Wars, 4 Humans, 3 AI, RPG]
Version 1.01 by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

This is a funny RPG where some evil guy uses some device to bring seven evil bosses from the game world into the real world. The bosses came from various games I had played recently: Bowser from any Mario game, Zemus from Final Fantasy 2, Kefka from Final Fantasy 3, Lavos from Chrono Trigger, Diablo from Diablo, Ganon from Zelda, and Oda Nobunaga from Inindo. To battle these bosses, up to four human players get to choose from Mario, Cecil, Terra, Crono, Mage, Link, and Momochi to go forth and send each evil boss back to the game world. Whenever a hero dies, the player that lost the hero gets to choose a different hero from whatever ones are remaining. Each boss has its own corner of the map full of monsters you'll find in the games that host that boss. Many of the bosses also have special quests you must undertake before you can even get to the boss, such as finding the Horadric Staff to get into Diablo's lair. After all seven evil bosses are defeated the heroes must then stop the guy who brought them in the first place.
Double Up: Download [Brood Wars, 4 Humans, Custom]
Version 1.01 by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

This map is fairly simple. You have a bunker and a beacon. The goal of the game is to destroy everyone else's bunker. Every so often each player gets some marines (level 1 unit). Bringing two marines to the beacon turns them into a level 2 unit. Bringing two level 2 units to the beacon gives you a level 3 unit and so on. After so many kills you also get special units to help you out.
Might 'n Magic: Download [4 Humans, 2 AI, RPG]
Version 1.12 by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

This is one of the first if not the first RPG I made for Starcraft. The name has no resemblence to any pre-existing game. The map is mainly just a bunch of canyons with monsters scattered around. Your characters can level up and when you get to the end you fight an end boss and then you've won!
Iraq: Download [8 Humans, Custom]
Version Unknown by Steven C. Brown. Map created on ?.

A map of Iraq is divided into 8 provinces. All players start out Allied (but not allied-victory). Players can then break alliances and go around killing everyone and watch one giant war break out.
