Grand Canyon Trip

Back

Here are pictures from my trip to the Grand Canyon. I went with my mom and grandma. We left Phoenix, Arizona around 6am, got to the canyon around 11am, left the canyon around 3:30pm, and got back to Phoenix around 8pm. It was sunny around Phoenix but there were fog and clouds around the mountains in the morning. It was mostly sunny at the canyon until the mid afternoon when rain and thunderstorms started popping up. The winds were light and the temperatures weren't bad, 45-55F (6.75-12.75C). It only got a bit cooler with the rain and storms.

Out on the road north of Phoenix in the morning.

Still on a road heading north.

Starting to head into some hills. There is a lot of fog around hovering over the hills and mountains.

On I-17 heading north towards Flagstaff. More clouds and fog are hovering around.

Still heading north on some road.

A picture of a nearby hill with some snow on it north of Flagstaff.

Drove in towards the Grand Canyon from the east. This is the first turnout we saw to actually look at the canyon. This is a little after 11am.

This is another picture from the same location as before.

Another Grand Canyon picture.

Another picture. I think this one is from a different turnout.

Another picture from that turnout.

A picture of a squirrel. They would run right up to people and take food. Some people were even petting them.

We went down the bright angel trail a short ways. These next few pictures are from various points along it.

Another picture from the trail.

A picture looking down and across at where the trail goes.

Another picture from the trail.

A picture from the trail looking back up the way we came. This was about as far down as we went.

Another picture of the canyon.

We walked west along the rim trail to take some more pictures. This was around 3pm. It was starting to cloud up more and more.

Here is a picture from the rim trail.

Another picture from the rim trail.

Here is a picture looking over the edge down into the canyon.

Here is another picture looking down at the bright angel trail. There are a bunch of people and mules down there.

Another picture looking over the edge of the canyon.

We went off of the trail towards the edge to get more of these good over the edge shots.

Another shot looking on the bright angel trail below.

Another picture looking downish.

Another picture looking over the edge. A rare spot with railing was here to keep people from toppling in. It was now starting to rain.

This was my last canyon picture. It was raining pretty good now so we decided to leave. The canyon was all hazy and wet now.

Some rain clouds on our way back to Phoenix.

Some snow on the hills just above us. We were at 8000 feet at one point. The recent warm spell had melted all of the snow where we drove...which was probably a good thing.

We drove right under a thunderstorm somewhere in the mountains on our way back. I forget if it was north or south of Flagstaff. Lots of rain, lightning, thunder, and soft hail/snow was coming at us. The perfect weather! This picture was taken about half a second before a large lightning flash and boom above us.
